Tennis Tournament - Perrysburg Tennis Center - September 10-12 in honor of Terry Phillipps

Compass Tournament:  Saturday, July 17
On July 17th , 25 teams participated in the 2010 Mixed Doubles COMPASS Tournament.  Throughout the day, 58 matches were played.  The undefeated team of Michelle Foster and Dennis Betancourt were the big winners and won the East bracket.  Other winners included the teams of Sarah Norr – Bob Zeiger, Jeff and Christy Marty, and Alisa Smith – Dan Wyandt. There were many new faces at this year’s tournament and some of them won brackets as well.  Andy and Katie Pollock won the Southwest; Rachel Mutchler and Thomas Randall won the North, Dawn Betancourt and Randy Perino won the Southeast and finally newbie Jillian Kirby paired up with Robert Johnson to win the Northwest.

Due to popular demand we are adding another session of both Munchkin and Midget tennis lessons.
Munchkins (4 – 7 years):  The emphasis of this program is on fun, as well as developing hand/eye coordination and basic tennis fundamentals.  The main goal of this program is to lay the foundation for a love of the game.  This program will be using the 36’ court QuickStart program.
                Classes:  Mondays:  4:30 – 5:30
                                                Session III - 6 classes beginning July 19th 
Midgets (8 – 10 years): Emphasis in this class will be in the development of sound fundamentals.  All classes will be designed to promote the enjoyment of learning tennis.  Instructive games are used to improve the tennis game while having fun.  This program will be using the 60’ QuickStart format. 
                Classes:  Wednesdays: 4:30 – 5:30
                                                Session III - 6 classes beginning July 21st

There is still time to sign up for Session III of Juniors and Intermediates
Junior Development (10 – 15 years):  This class is suggested for those with basic experience.  Each student will be working on mastering the basic stroke fundamentals, proper movement and basic singles and doubles strategy.  This class was formerly called Beginners.
                Classes:  Mondays and Wednesdays:  2:00 – 3:00
Session III- 6 classes beginning July 19th
Intermediate Level (10 – 18 years):  This class is suggested for those with previous tennis experience.  Students should already have ability to rally, keep the ball in play and keep score.  The emphasis is becoming more competitive and on match play.
                 Classes:  Mondays and Wednesdays:  3:00 – 4:30
Session III- 6 classes beginning July 19th
Prices: 
Munchkin:  $65 member/$75 nonmember (or $89 member/$99 nonmember includes racquet and balls)
Midgets:  $65 member/$75 nonmember (or $89 member/$99 nonmember includes racquet and balls)
Junior Development:  $65 member/$75 non-member 
Intermediate Level:  $89 member/$99 non-member

Once payment is received your child will be registered for class.  Please send an email to Alisa Smith at tennis@ftfrc.com or call her at 419-376-1466 when you put the check in the mail.  Please contact Alisa with any questions.

Congratulations to our 7.0 Mixed Doubles Team captained by Andrew Norr and Alisa Smith.  Their team had a very successful season and qualified for the District Championships.  Other team members included:  Stu and Jane Draheim, Jen Gwin, Al Haberson, Pam Krukowski, Dana and Chris Mathewson, John Venglarcik, and Bob and DeDe Zeiger.  Way to go FT!!

Players, once again there is a $100 fee per team which must be paid before your captain is allowed to pick up their tennis balls for the season.  Check with your captain for details.
